Who’s operating now
Llandudno’s taxi trade has consolidated over the last few years, so older directory listings are often out of date.
Alliance & Interlink Taxis
The two long-standing Llandudno firms now trade together, run by Alliance Taxis Ltd from Llandudno railway station on Augusta Street. Book through their app.
Premier Cars
Withdrew its services from the Llandudno area while selling the business, citing delays in licensing new drivers and a shortage of night-time work.
Smaller independents
Alliance & Interlink is now the only taxi company of any size in Llandudno. Alongside it there are a number of smaller independent licensed drivers.

Taxi ranks
Conwy Council lists these hackney carriage stands (taxi ranks) in Llandudno and Craig-y-Don. Only hackney carriages can wait at a rank or be flagged down in the street.
| Town centre | Mostyn Street (by the King’s Arms), Mostyn Street (by Fortes), Lloyd Street, Vaughan Street, Gloddaeth Street, Mostyn Broadway |
|---|---|
| Station and seafront | Conway Road, Penrhyn Crescent |
| Craig-y-Don | Clarence Road, Queens Road |
Late at night, especially at weekends and outside the summer season, it’s worth booking ahead rather than relying on a rank.
Taxi or private hire?
Hackney carriage (taxi)
Can wait at a rank, be hailed in the street, or be booked through an operator. Fares are capped by Conwy Council and charged on a meter.
Private hire vehicle
Must be booked in advance through a licensed operator. It can’t pick you up off the street or from a rank. Agree the price when you book.
Quick check: if a car doesn’t have a visible taxi sign, it is not a hackney carriage. It can only take you if you’ve booked it in advance.
If a private hire car offers you a ride without a booking, don’t get in. It isn’t allowed to pick you up without a booking, may not be insured to carry you, and there’s no record of the journey.
How Conwy Council regulates taxis
Taxis in Llandudno are licensed by Conwy County Borough Council. The council licenses three things, and for any journey the driver, the vehicle and the operator must all be licensed by the same council:
- Drivers
- Vehicles
- Operators
The council also sets the maximum fares hackney carriages can charge, and designates the taxi ranks. Find out more on Conwy Council’s taxi licensing pages.
Taxi fares
These are the maximum fares for hackney carriages set by Conwy County Borough Council in its Table of Fares, operative from 1 June 2025. A driver can charge less, but not more.
| First mile | £4.00 for the whole journey if it’s a mile or less |
|---|---|
| After the first mile | 30p for each further 1/12th of a mile, or part of one |
| Waiting time | 40p per minute, or part of a minute |
Extra charges
| Midnight to 7am | +50% |
|---|---|
| Bank holidays | +50% (other than those below) |
| Christmas Day and Good Friday | +100%, all day |
| Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve | +100% from 6pm to midnight |
| Each extra passenger | 30p for each passenger after the first |
| Luggage outside the passenger area | 30p per item (pushchairs, groceries and wheelchairs are free) |
| Domestic animals | 50p each (guide dogs are free) |
| Soiling | Up to £100 if the vehicle needs cleaning before it can be used again |
Indicative journeys
Worked out from the council’s maximum fares for one passenger, with no waiting time or extras. All journeys start from Llandudno railway station on Augusta Street, in the town centre. Distances are approximate road miles, so treat these as a rough guide: the meter in the cab is what counts.
| From Llandudno station to | Daytime | Midnight to 7am |
|---|---|---|
| West Shore beach (about 1 mile) | about £4 | about £6 |
| Craig-y-Don (about 1.5 miles) | about £6 | about £9 |
| Deganwy (about 2.5 miles) | about £9.50 | about £14 |
| Llandudno Junction station (about 3.5 miles) | about £13 | about £19.50 |
| Conwy town centre (about 4.5 miles) | about £16.50 | about £25 |
| Rhos-on-Sea (about 5 miles) | about £18.50 | about £27.50 |
| Colwyn Bay town centre (about 6.5 miles) | about £24 | about £36 |
| Ysbyty Glan Clwyd A&E, Bodelwyddan (about 18 miles) | about £65 | about £98 |
Add 30p for each extra passenger. On bank holidays add 50%, and on Christmas Day and Good Friday double it. For longer trips, such as to the hospital or an airport, it’s worth asking for a quote when you book.
Tipping
Tipping isn’t required and isn’t part of the council’s fare card. Many passengers round up to the nearest pound or add around 10%, especially for help with luggage or a late-night trip. It’s always your choice: a driver can’t add a tip or charge more than the meter shows.
Airport runs and long journeys
For trips to Manchester Airport (around 80 miles) or Liverpool John Lennon Airport (around 70 miles), get a quote and agree a fixed price when you book. On the meter, journeys that long would come to well over £250, and an agreed price is usually much better value.
Short notice? Flights change and plans go wrong, so firms can sometimes help at the last minute. Even then, ask for the price before you set off. For a journey ending outside Conwy, if no fare has been agreed in advance, a hackney carriage can’t charge more than the meter.
| Before June 2025 | Up to £3.60 for the first mile, then 30p for each tenth of a mile (in place from February 2022) |
|---|---|
| Private hire | Fares aren’t set by the council. Agree the price with the operator when you book |
Every metered taxi must display the fare card in a prominent place. You can see the current card here: Conwy hackney carriage fare card (PDF).
Fares on this page are as published by Conwy Council and reported in October 2026. Always check the fare card in the vehicle.
Staying safe
- Use a licensed taxi or a private hire car you’ve booked.
- Check for the council licence plate on the vehicle and the driver’s ID badge.
- For private hire, check the car and driver match your booking before you get in.
- Late at night, share your journey details with someone, and sit in the back.
Complaints and lost property
For lost property or a problem with a booking, contact the firm first. To report a concern about a licensed driver, vehicle or operator, use Conwy Council’s licensing report form, email [email protected], or call 01492 574000. Note the vehicle’s plate number, the date, time and place.
If you feel unsafe or a crime has happened, call 999, or 101 for non-emergencies.
